
Thomas M. Lanyon
Mr. Lanyon joined Messick & Associates in 2017 as a project engineer, bringing with him his extensive background of knowledge of land development including planning and engineering design and services in both the public and private sectors. With a strong talent for and emphasis on creative solutions, Tom brings a unique perspective to design challenges and understanding of design to assure real world constructability and expedite projects from start to finish. He has provided his knowhow to the managing and engineering services for numerous residential and commercial projects of various size and scopes. Tom has thorough knowledge and expertise in project management, hydraulic modeling, storm water management systems, site layouts and grading, roadway design and layout and sediment and erosion control design.

Robert J. Noeth, Jr., P.E.
Mr. Noeth joined Messick & Associates in 2009 as a project manager and brought with him over 28 years of experience in management and design of engineering projects. He manages projects in both the public and private sectors, giving Messick the diversity and knowledge needed to expedite the projects. He has managed the design of numerous residential, commercial and industrial facilities including McKinsey Park, an award winning adult community in Severna Park, MD, the flue gas desulfurization system for the existing Brandon Shores Power Plant for BGE, as well as the engineering design of the storm drainage and stormwater management system for the Arundel Mills Mall, a 65 acre regional retail facility. His experience also includes the design and project management of recreational and walking trail facilities. His areas of expertise, in addition to project management, include the design of storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, grading, sediment and erosion control design, floodplain analyses, water distribution and gravity sewer system design, road design, specification writing and permit acquisition. He has a thorough knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology including computer modeling and has conducted several stormwater management technical design courses.

Michael J. Gates, L.S.
Director of Surveys
As our Director of Surveys, Michael is the Licensed, Professional Land Surveyor who leads the strategic direction of our Survey Department. His team of survey professionals provides survey services which include boundary, topographic, construction stakeout and ALTA Surveys, as well as all proposals for the survey related projects we offer. Michael has worked on an array of projects during his 33 years of experience, including BWI airport, Tipton Airfield, Annapolis Town Center, Coppin State College, BWI Parkway, ICC connector, Ritchie Station in Prince Georges County, multiple Smithsonian Institute properties, and the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. His vast experience has been in public and private sector work, with emphasis in the last 10 years in the private sector. Michael ensures his team is up-to-date on current techniques through continuing education and changes to laws that pertain to Land Surveying. He has been a member of the Maryland Society of Land Surveyors for more than 30 years.
